Although this problem is set up to solve by substitution, here is the elimination method.
Multiply the second equation by -2 and add to the first.
2x%2B3y-2x=8-4y%2B6
3y=14-4y
7y=14
y=2
Then,
x=2%282%29-3
x=4-3
x=1
