"The number of two consecutive checks have a sum of 357. What are the numbers." This is what I have 1x+2x=357 3=357, and I don't know where I drove over the cliff on this but I did. Could you please help me. Thanks,

2x=356
x=178
x+1=179

divide 357 by 2, 178.5. Therefore the two numbers are 178 & 179
