Question 865303: Im getting frustrated with this and everything I have looked up isn't being helpful.
Find the missing coordinate to complete the ordered-pair solution to the given linear equation.
4x − 3y = −12
(3, )
( ,-8)
( ,10)
Please help me understand how to do this.
Thanks
Mike

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Find the missing coordinate to complete the ordered-pair solution to the given linear equation.
4x − 3y = −12
(3, )
( ,-8)
( ,10)
-----------
For (3, )
4x − 3y = −12
4*3 - 3y = -12
12 - 3y = -12
-3y = -24
y = 8
(3,8)
=============================
For ( ,-8)
4x − 3y = −12
4x -3*-8 = -12
4x + 24 = -12
4x = -36
x = -9
(-9,-8)
----------
You do the last one.

For the coordinate (3, something) the three is the x value. Because in the equation4x+%26%238722%3B+3y+=+%26%238722%3B12+ x is the value of the coordinate, when you substitute in the value for x, when you solve for y, it will give you the y value.
4x-3y=-12
4%2A3-3y=-12
12-3y=-12
Subtract 12 from both sides
-3y=-24
Divide both sides by -3
y=8

(3, 8)

For the next, ( ,-8), -8 is the y value
4x-3y=-12
4x-3%28-8%29=-12
4x%2B24=-12
Subtract 24 from both sides
4x=-36
Divide both sides by 4
x=-9

(-9, -8)

For the next coordinate, ( ,10), 10 is the y value
4x-3y=-12
4x-3%2810%29=-12
4x-30=-12
Add 30 to both sides
4x=18
Divide both sides by 4
x=9%2F2

The three coordinates are (3, 8), (-9, -8), and (9/2, 10)
