My question is to "Graph the following linear inequality. 8x-9y<72", I've tried it but I seem to continue getting it wrong.
----------------------------
Solve for "y": y > (8/9)x - 8
-----
Graph:
You don't graph the inequality, you graph the boundary which on equality.
-----
Graph y = (8/9)x -8 as a dashed line.
Plot (9,-8) and (9,0) and draw the boundary thru those two points.
----
Shade the half-plane ABOVE the boundary because you want
y to be GREATER than (8/9)x-8.

This one is no trick. Solve for y and you have your linear relation.

-9y%3C72-8x
y%3E72%2F%28-9%29-8x%2F%28-9%29
y%3E%288%2F9%29x-72%2F9
highlight%28y%3E%288%2F9%29x-8%29
This is based on the line, but the region satisfying is all points ABOVE line of y=(8/9)x-8, because what you have is a strict inequality.

The red shaded region is the inequality.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
8x - 9y < 72
8x - 8x - 9y < -8x + 72
-9y < -8x + 72
-9y/-9 < 8/9x + (72/-9)
change the inequality symbol
y > (8/9)x - 8
