You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Knowing the slope and having one set of coordinates, solve for b, y-intercept
...
Using y = mx+b, m=1%2F2 and (-3, 2),
2 = 1%2F2-3 + b
b = 2+3%2F2 = %284%2F2%29%2B%283%2F2%29 = 7/2
...
slope-intercept form: y = 1%2F2x + 7/2
For general form:
1%2F2x - y + 7%2F2 = 0
Multiply the entire equation by 2 to be rid of fractions
highlight%28standard%29: x - 2y + 7 = 0
...
Alternatively, using point-slope formula
y-2 = 1%2F2(x-(-3)
y-2 = 1%2F2x + 3%2F2
Multiply the entire equation by 2 to be rid of fractions
2y - 4 = x + 3
general form: x - 2y + 7 = 0
...

Find the general form equation of the line that contains (-3,2) and has a slope of 1/2

Using the point-slope form: y+-+y%5B1%5D+=+m%28x+-+x%5B1%5D%29, the point, (- 3, 2), and m, or slope of 1%2F2, we get:

y+-+2+=+%281%2F2%29%28x+-+3%29

y+-+2+=+%281%2F2%29x+-+3%2F2

y+=+%281%2F2%29x+-+3%2F2+%2B+4%2F2

y+=+%281%2F2%29x+%2B+1%2F2

2y = x + 1 ------ Multiplying equation by LCD, 2

highlight_green%28x+-+2y+%2B+1+=+0%29, since the GENERAL FORM of a linear function is: Ax + By + C = 0
