You can
put this solution on YOUR website!
5(x - 2) = 3x + 8
5 * x = 5x
5 * -2 = -10
5x - 10 = 3x + 8
Add 10 to each side of the equation
5x - 10 + 10 = 3x + 8 + 10
Combine like terms:
-10 + 10 = 0
8 + 10 = 18
Therefore:
5x = 3x + 18
Subtract 3x from each side of the equation
5x - 3x = 3x + 18 - 3x
Combine like terms:
5x - 3x = 2x
3x - 3x = 0
Therefore:
2x = 18
Divide each side by 2
2x/2 = 18/2
x = 9
The Answer:
x = 9
Check:
5(x - 2) = 3x + 8
5 (9 - 2) = 3(9) + 8
9 - 2 = 7
5(7) = 35
3(9) + 8
3(9) = 27 + 8 = 35
Therefore:
35 = 35
