0.25x + 4.0 - 0.5x = 3.6

collect like terms

- 0.25 = 3.6 - 4.0
-0.25x = - 0.4

divide both side by 0.25
x = 1.6

.25x + .4 - .05x = 3.6

.25x - .05x = 3.6 - .4

.2x = 3.2
