You can
put this solution on YOUR website! Would someone be able to help me on this problem?
Given f(x) = -2x - 4, find f(-3)
Thanks so much,
Ashley
f(x) = -2x - 4
Put parentheses around all x's that
aren't already enclosed in parentheses:
f(x) = -2(x) - 4
Erase all the x's:
f( ) = -2( ) - 4
Put -3 in all the empty parentheses:
f(-3) = -2(-3) - 4
Simplify the right side, leaving the left
side as it is:
f(-3) = 6 - 4
f(-3) = 2
That's all there is to it! It only
amounts to substituting what is in the
parentheses on the left for x in the right
side. Then simplify.
