You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Certainly don't want you to have trouble, especially at Christmas time!
:
A total of 95 tickets were sold to a concert for $445.
If adult tickets sold for $8.00 and children's tickets sold for $3.50,
how many of each type of ticket were sold?
;
Let a = no. of adult tickets
Let c = no. of child's tickets
:
Write an equation for each statement:
:
"A total of 95 tickets were sold"
a + c = 95
or
c = (95-a); use this for substitution
;
" for $445; adult tickets sold for $8.00 and childrens tickets sold for $3.50,"
8a + 3.50c = 445
Replace c with (95-a)
8a + 3.5(95-a) = 445
8a + 332.5 - 3.5a = 445
8a - 3.5a = 445 - 332.5
4.5a = 112.5
a = 112.5%2F4.5
a = 25 adults
and
c = 95-25
c = 70 children
:
:
Check this in the $$ equation
8(25) + 70(3.5) =
200 + 245 = 445; confirms our solutions
