2x+y = 3
4x+4y =16
solve for X: 4x = 16-4y
x=16-4y/4 = 4-y=X????eq. 1
now solve for Y: y =3-[(2*(16-4x)/4]= 3 ? (8-2x)= -5+2x=Y??.eq. 2
Now plug Y in to the eq. 1: x=4-(-5+2x)=9-2x
3x=9, therefore X=3
Now plug X value in eq. 2: -5+2*3=Y
