2L + 2W = 186

L = W + 65
:
Replace L with (W+65) in the perimeter equation
2(W+65) + 2W = 186
Simplify, divide by 2
(W+65) + W = 93
:
2W = 93 - 65
:
2W = 28
W = 28%2F2
W = 14 inches is the width

L = W + 65
L = 14 + 65
L = 79 inches is the length
