Question 266658: Not sure if I am doing this correctly:
8(y+3)=3(2y+12)
8y+24=6y+36
2y+24=12 Found 2 solutions by Edwin McCravy, unlockmath:Answer by Edwin McCravy(20056) (Show Source):
Not sure if I am doing this correctly:
That is good, you used the distributive principle
That is wrong because when you add -24 to both sides you
no longer have the +24 on the left, but only
Then you divide both sides by 2 and get
Edwin
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hello,
You're good up to the third step.
8(y+3)=3(2y+12)
8y+24=6y+36
2y+24=12 This step you forgot to subtract 24 on the left side. ( Remember, whatever you do on one side we need to do on the other side)
2y=12 Divide both sides by 2 to get:
y=6
Plug in the answer to see if it works.
