Question 256463: Alicia has 3 law units she supervises and has been assigned 11 additional attorneys. Each law unit has the same number of attorneys. Altogether there are 47 attorneys. HOW MANY ATTORNEYS ARE IN EACH LAW UNIT? Found 2 solutions by richwmiller, solver91311:Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Are the law units of equal number of attorneys before or after adding the 11.
If before the 11 are added then
3x+11=47
3x=36
x=12
12 attorneys in each unit originally.
Impossible unless a given law unit can contain a fractional part of an attorney. No possible interpretation of this problem has a total number of attorneys that is evenly divisible by 3.
What is this -- a lawyer joke? If so, give it up. Lawyers don't think they are funny and no one else thinks they are jokes.
