You can put this solution on YOUR website!

2x%2B2y=50 Start with the 1st equation

2x%2B2%28x%2B9%29=50 Plug in y=x%2B9

2x%2B2x%2B18=50 Distribute.

4x%2B18=50 Combine like terms on the left side.

4x=50-18 Subtract 18 from both sides.

4x=32 Combine like terms on the right side.

x=%2832%29%2F%284%29 Divide both sides by 4 to isolate x.

x=8 Reduce.

y=x%2B9 Move onto to the 2nd equation

y=8%2B9 Plug in x=8

y=17 Add

So the solutions are x=8 and y=17 which form the ordered pair (8,17). So the system is consistent and independent.
