You can put this solution on YOUR website!
+graph%28+300%2C+200%2C+-10%2C+10%2C+-10%2C+10%2C+-x%2B9%2C+4x-1%29+
Intersect at (2, 7)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Step 1) Graph y=-x%2B9

Looking at y=-x%2B9 we can see that the equation is in slope-intercept form y=mx%2Bb where the slope is m=-1 and the y-intercept is b=9

Since b=9 this tells us that the y-intercept is .Remember the y-intercept is the point where the graph intersects with the y-axis

So we have one point

Now since the slope is comprised of the "rise" over the "run" this means
slope=rise%2Frun

Also, because the slope is -1, this means:

rise%2Frun=-1%2F1

which shows us that the rise is -1 and the run is 1. This means that to go from point to point, we can go down 1 and over 1

So starting at , go down 1 unit

and to the right 1 unit to get to the next point

Now draw a line through these points to graph y=-x%2B9

So this is the graph of y=-x%2B9 through the points and

Step 2) Graph y=4x-1

Looking at y=4x-1 we can see that the equation is in slope-intercept form y=mx%2Bb where the slope is m=4 and the y-intercept is b=-1

Since b=-1 this tells us that the y-intercept is .Remember the y-intercept is the point where the graph intersects with the y-axis

So we have one point

Now since the slope is comprised of the "rise" over the "run" this means
slope=rise%2Frun

Also, because the slope is 4, this means:

rise%2Frun=4%2F1

which shows us that the rise is 4 and the run is 1. This means that to go from point to point, we can go up 4 and over 1

So starting at , go up 4 units

and to the right 1 unit to get to the next point

Now draw a line through these points to graph y=4x-1

So this is the graph of y=4x-1 through the points and

Step 3) Now graph y=-x%2B9 and y=4x-1 together on the same coordinate axis

Graph of y=-x%2B9 (red) and y=4x-1 (green)

From the graph, we see that the two lines intersect at the point (2,7)

So the solution to the system system%28y=-x%2B9%2Cy=4x-1%29 is x=2 and y=7

This means that the system is independent and consistent.
