A repair bill on a sailboat came to $1603, including $532 for parts and the remainder for labor. If the cost of labor is $63 per hour, how many hours of labor did it take to repair the sailboat?
--------------------------------
Let the number of hours of labor be "x":
Equation:
1603 = 532 + 63x
63x = 1071
x = 17 hours

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Total Bill = Parts + Labor ------> Working Eqn
*Take note: Labor = rate x no. of hours
Let x=no.of hours

Substitute all given to our Working Eqn:

$1603= $532 + ($63/hr)(no. of hours)
$1603-$532=($63)(x)
$1071=($63)(x), divide both side by 63:
x=$1071/$63= 17hrs total hours of labor

Check,
$1603 = $532 + $63 (17hrs)
$1603 = $532 + $1071
$1603 = $1603

Thank you,
