Question 177838: please show me how to clear this fraction by multiplying by 3
-29one/third they say the answer is -88 Found 3 solutions by Mathtut, edjones, MathTherapy:Answer by Mathtut(3670) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! are you trying to change this from a mixed number to an improper fraction. It is not real clear what you want.
:
If you start with -29 and 1/3 written as -29 1/3 you take the integer and multiply it by the denominator and then add the numerator all over the denominator
:
so 29(3)+1=88 and since this is negative we end up with -88/3
:
another way to do this is to write 29 as an improper fraction with 3 as the denominator so that we have like terms and so we can add 1/3 to it
:
so 29*3=87...so 29=87/3 then we add 1/3 to it to get 88/3 and since this is negative we end with -88/3.
:
If you multiply this by 3 as you say you would have (-88/3)(3)=-88
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 29 1/3
multiply the denominator times the whole number and add the numerator.
(3*29)+1
=87+1
=88
So 29 1/3 = 88/3
