Question 153023: Example to solve:
Mixing Cleaning Solutions
King’s Service Station uses two kinds of cleaning solution containing acid and water. “Attack” is 2% acid and “Blast” is 6% acid. They want to mix the two to get 60qt of a solution that is 5% acid. How many quarts of each should they use?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
“Attack” is 2% acid and “Blast” is 6% acid. They want to mix the two to get 60qt of a solution that is 5% acid. How many quarts of each should they use?
:
Let x = the amt 6% acid stuff
then
(60-x) = the amt of 2% acid stuff
:
Write the decimal equiv equation:
.06x + .02(60-x) = .05(60)
:
.06 x + 1.2 - .02x = 3
:
.06x - .02x = 3 - 1.2
:
.04x = 1.8
x = 1.8%2F.04
x = 45 qts of 6% acid
then
60 - 45 = 15 qts of 2% acid
:
:
Check solution in original equation:
.06(45) + .02(15) = .05(60)
2.7 + .3 = 3
