1. 5x-7=14

Add 7 to both sides
5x=21

Divide by 5
x=21/5

**If this is an absolute value problem, proceed to do this as well**:

5x-7=-14

Add 7 to both sides
5x=-7

Divide by 5
x=-7/5

If absolute value: x=21/5;-7/5
If not absolute value: x=21/5
