4x+y=1
x-2y=-2
Multiply the second equation by -4 to be able to eliminate x. You should get -4x%2B8y=8. Add all that to the first equation and get 9y=9. So y=1. Plug 1 in for y in the other equation to solve for x. 4x%2B1=1. 4x=0. x=0. To check both values, plug them both into either equation. 0-2=-2. It's true. So x=0 and y=1.
