SOLUTION: Would someone please help me understand this?: -2(z-4)-(3z-2)=-2-(6z-2) -2z+8-3z+2=12z+4 (this is where I get confused-do I add -2z and -3z?) -5z+10=12z+4? +5z +5z 10=7z+4

Question 12967: Would someone please help me understand this?:
-2(z-4)-(3z-2)=-2-(6z-2)
-2z+8-3z+2=12z+4 (this is where I get confused-do I add -2z and -3z?)
-5z+10=12z+4?
+5z +5z
10=7z+4
-4 -4
6=7z?
divide both by 6?
Any help is appreciated-thank you

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Ok, you have:
-2%28z-4%29-%283z-2%29+=+-2-%286z-2%29 You did the left side just fine. But on the right side, the -2 is not multiplying the (6z-2), at least, going by the way you have written it. So your second step is in error. It should be:
-2z%2B8-3z%2B2+=+-2-6z%2B2 Collect like-terms.
-5z%2B10+=+-6z Add 6z to both sides.
z%2B10+=+0 Subtract 10 from both sides.
z+=+-10
