Take the second equation  y = ax + 5  and substitute x= 6,  y= -1  into it.


You will get


    -1 = a*6 + 5.


It implies


    -1 - 5 = 6a

    -6     = 6a

     a     = -6%2F6 = -1.      ANSWER
