You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Gail and Bill drove to a beach at an average speed of 50 mi/h. They returned home over the same road at an average speed of 55 mi/h. The trip home took 30 min less time. How far is the beach from their home?
------------------
To the beach DATA;
Rate = 50 mph ; distance = x miles ; time = d/r = x/50 hrs
------------------
From the beach DATA:
Rate = 55 mph ; distance = x miles ; time = d/r = x/55
------------------
EQUATION:
Time to beach - Time from beach = 1/2
x/50 - x/55 = 1/2
(55-50)x/50*55 = 1/2
5x = 25*55
x = 25*11
x = 275 miles
