You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +x+ = amount invested in stocks at 7%
+3x+ = amount invested in bonds at 5%
-------------------------
+.05%2A3x+%2B+.07x+=+158.4+
+.15x+%2B+.07x+=+158.4+
+.22x+=+158.4+
+x+=+720+
and
+3x+=+2160+
$720 was invested in stocks
$2,160 was invested in bonds
--------------------------
check:
+.05%2A3x+%2B+.07x+=+158.4+
+.05%2A2160+%2B+.07%2A720+=+158.4+
+108+%2B+50.4+=+158.4+
+158.4+=+158.4+
OK

Let amount invested in bonds and stocks, be B, and S, respectively
Then: B = 3S______S+=+B%2F3 -------eq (i)
Also, .05B + .07S = 158.4 ---- eq (ii)
.05B+%2B+.07%28B%2F3%29+=+158.4 ------- Substituting B%2F3 for S in eq (ii)
.05B+%2B+.07B%2F3+=+158.4
.15B + .07B = 475.2 ----------- Multiplying by LCD, 3
.22B = 475.2
B, or amount invested in bonds = 475.2%2F.22, or highlight_green%28matrix%281%2C1%2C+%22%242%2C160%22%29%29
