Starting from
14 cents per ounce, we multiply by a form of the number one twice.
Is not one dollar equal to one hundred cents?
Is not sixteen ounces equal to one pound?
So here is what we do
(14 cents/oz) x ($1/100 cents) x (16 oz/1 lb)=
We can cancel units just like we cancel numbers...
We then multiply the number across and get
$/lb=
224/100 $/lb =
$2.24 per pound.
