Question 946197: How do I solve for the variable in this equation? 3(x+2/5)= x-1/3. I can't remember how to solve this, and I can't refer to the notes I took because they have been collected. This is an online class. Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Assume the problem is:
distribute the 3
cross multiply
3(3x + 6) = 5(x-1)
9x + 18 = 5x - 5
9x - 5x = -5 - 18
4x = -23
x = -23/4
x = -5.75
