Hint:
x^2+4x-12
factors to
(x+6)(x-2)
because 6 and -2 both multiply to -12 (the last number) and add to +4 (the middle coefficient)
Therefore,
x^2+4x-12 = 0
is the same as
(x+6)(x-2) = 0
