Question 31758: John traveled 135 miles in 4 hours fewer than it took David to travel 945 miles. If the speed of John was three times that of David's, what was the speed of each for how long did each travel?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let's look at our data first:
David:
His Distance = 945
His Time = x
His Speed = z
His Time = His Distance divided by His Speed
His Time = 945%2Fz
John:
His Distance = 135
His Time = Four less than David
His Speed = Three Times that of David
His Time = His Distance divided by His Speed
His Time = 135%2FThree+Times+that+of+David
His Time = 135%2F3z

John's Time was 4 hrs less than David. Therefore:
135%2F3z+4 = 945%2Fz
I'm sure you can solve this equation. I'll let you finish it off!
