x = +/- 1
x = +/- 3
when x = +/- 1,|2 - |x|| becomes |2 - 1| which is equal to |1| which is equal to 1.
when x = +/- 3, |2 - |x|| becomes |2 - 3| which is equal to |-1| which is equal to 1.
