abs%28w-7%29=9 Divide both sides by 8



Break up the absolute value (remember, if you have abs%28x%29=a, then x=-a or x=a)

w-7=-9 or w-7=9 Set the expression w-7 equal to the original value 9 and it's opposite -9




Now lets focus on the first equation w-7=-9


w=-9%2B7Add 7 to both sides


w=-2 Combine like terms on the right side






Now lets focus on the second equation w-7=9



w=9%2B7Add 7 to both sides


w=16 Combine like terms on the right side
