Question 775528: My problem is something is wrong with the equation. The instruction says to correct the equation to make it work. Could you help me?
The original equation is r+s/r+t = 1 + s/t
Could you show me the correct equation, then assign values to r,s, and t. I need to show that the equation is correct by substituting in values.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The original equation is r+s/r+t = 1 + s/t
:
%28%28r%2Bs%29%29%2F%28%28r%2Bt%29%29 = 1 + s%2Ft
change it to
%28%28r%2Bs%29%29%2F%28%28r%2Bt%29%29 = 1 - s%2Ft
Assign values: r=1, t=2; find s
%28%281%2Bs%29%29%2F%28%281%2B2%29%29 = 1 - s%2F2
%28%281%2Bs%29%29%2F%283%29 = 1 - s%2F2
multiply equation by 6
2(1+s) = 6 - 3s
2 + 2s = 6 - 3s
2s + 3s = 6 - 2
5s = 4
s = 4/5
s = .8
:
See if r=1; s=.8; t=2 works in the original equation
%28%281%2B.8%29%29%2F%28%281%2B2%29%29 = 1 + .8%2F2
1.8%2F3 = 1 - .4
.6 = .6, our equation works now
