this is the graph of y = cot(x) + 3 superimposed on the graph of y = cot(x)

the + 3 adds a vertical shift of 3 units up to the value of y.
if the value of x is equal to 1:
the value of cot(x) is equal to .6420926159
the value of cot(x) + 3 is equal to 3.6420926159
i will superimpose the value of x = 1 and y = .6420926159 and y = 3.6420926159 on the graph so you can see the relationship more clearly.

that will show up more clearly in the picture of the last graph as shown below:
