Question 153916: Help with sequences, induction and probability?
i have a figure with 4 squares:
square 1: 3 in wide
square 2: 6 in wide
square 3: 9 in wide (yellow)
square 4: 12 in wide

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The probability of the dart landing in the yellow region is simply the ratio of the area of the yellow region to the total area of the entire figure.
First, you need to find the total area of the entire figure. Since they are all squares, the area is found by squaring the given dimension.
3%5E2+=+9 sq.in.
6%5E2+=+36sq,in.
9%5E2+=+81sq.in.
12%5E2+=+144sq.in.
----------------------
Total area = the sum of the individual areas.
A = 270 sq.in.
The area of the yellow square is 9%5E2+=+81 sq.in.
The ratio is: 81%2F270 Simplify this to 3%2F10+=+0.3
The probability of the dart landing in the yellow region is 0.3 or 30%

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
total area=12*12=144in ^2
area of yellow square=9*9=81
area of 6in square=6*6=36
yellow area=81-36=45 in^2
45/144=.3125 or 31.25 % probability of landing on in yellow area.
