log2(32) = y if and only if 2^y = 32.

2^y = 32 when y = 5.

you get 2^5 = 32

you can confirm this is true by using your calculator.

you can also solve for y by using the lob base conversion formula of:

log2(32) = log10(32) / log10(2) which becomes log(32) / log(2) when using your calculator, because the log function assumes log to the base of 10.

you will see that log(32) / log(2) = 5.
