If y is the side
the area is 5 parts, the area of the base, x^2=4, plus 4 times the area of the faces. The height of a face is a straight line drawn to bisect the base. The triangle formed has hypotenuse 6, base 1 (bisected), and altitude sqrt (35). (Pythagorean theorem 1^2+x^2=6^2)
The area of each face is (1/2)bh=(1/2)*2* sqrt (35)=sqrt (35)
There are 4 of them so the area of the faces collectively is 4 sqrt (35)=23.66
Add to that the 4 above and the area is 27.66.
