Trigonometry is all about ratios of sides of right triangles. Tangents are one of them. The tangent of an angle is the ratio of the side opposite the angle over the side adjacent the angle. In other words, the tangent of an angle equals the sine of the angle over the cosine of the angle. Use the diagrams in lesson Sines to find tan 30, tan 45, and tan 60. (just click the link.) So just remember that tangent=opposite/adjacent and you will be okay.
