Question 1930: I asked a question about a boxing ring yesterday and have studied up and down on the pythoragean theorum and have gotten nowhere with it. My question is this:
A boxing ring in the shape of a square, 20 ft on each side. How far apart would the boxers be when they are in opposite corners of the ring?
I think it would be 20 ft but I cannot figure out how to explain it.

Question 1952: One more....and I will give you a break from this stuff. :)
A triangular sail has an area of x^2+5x+6 square meters and a height of x+3 meters. Find the length of the sail's base.
I got this so far:
Area=x^2+5x+6m^2....I am not exactly sure if it's right or what to do from here.

Question 2481: I have a triangle... it doesn't look like a right triangle, but the teacher says don't assume anything. the triangle is labeled so: A B C. Intersecting angle B is a line that intersects segment AC.
here are the measurements of the sides that are given in the problem.
AC = 20
EG = 12
FH = 6
BD = x. i must find x. please answer as soon as soon as you can. I know that you all have lives as well, and that you are most likely busy, especially at this time of the year, now that exams are closing in. However, I have an exam myself in two days. However, I have already turned in my textbook, and have no way of getting an answer to this anywhere else. Please help me out. (an explanation of this type of problem would be fine, you dont necessarily have to work it out for me.)
THANK YOU SO MUCH. -Ben Elam

Question 2999: Okay I had a problem on a test for Intermediate Algebra-
I had to find all 3 angles in degrees for a triangle.
The problem was that the smaller angle is half of the larger angle and that the second angle is 25 degrees less than the larger angle.
What is the measure of the larger angle? (and other angles)
Thanks for anyone who can key me in here...I got something completley wrong
x1 (smaller angle)= 28 degrees
x2 (medium angle)= 68 degrees
x3 (larger angle)= 84 degrees
But my answer is all wrong because 68 is not 25 less than 84 and 28 is not half of 84....so very confused =/

Question 4217: I am having trouble setting up the following equation:
Suppose that the length of one leg of a right triangle is 2 inches less than the length of the other leg. If the length of the hypotenuse is 10 inches, find the length of each leg.
x²+(x+2)²= 10² ? Is this correct?

Question 4061: use the formular for the area of a rectangle and the pythagorean Theorem to solve: A small television has a picture with a diagonal measure of 10 inches and a viewing area of 48 square inches. find the length and width. the width is y and the length is w. I know x times y = 48 square inches. y = 48 divided by x and I must be not setting up the equation. thought it was 2x + 2y = something????? x is 8 and y is 6 but I need step by step please.
Another question is this that I cannot work through.
A planet's orbit follows a path described by 16x^2 + 4y^2 =64. A comet follows the parabolic path y=x^2 - 4. Where might the comet intersect the orbiting planet?

Question 8172: i have a rectangle w/a perimiter of 98 ft.
i need to find the value of x.
the height on both sides = x+3
the width on both sides= 2x+1
i got 17.7 like this 98=2(2x+1) + 2(x-3)
98=6x-5
103=6x
i'm just not sure if i did it correctly
