Question 944573: I don't know how to do these problems. The given lengths are two sides of a right triangle. All three side lengths of the triangle are integers and together form a Pythagorean triple. Find the length of the third side and tell weather it is a leg or the hypotenuse. 30 and 40 or 15 and 36, if I could even get one example on how to do them that would be appreciated as I have 8 others to do besides these two.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Try examining the two sides of 30 and 40.

One of these will give an integer for x.
30%5E2%2B40%5E4=x%5E2, x%5E2%2B30%5E2=40%5E2, x%5E2%2B40%5E2=30%5E2.

x=50, x=26.458, x=sqrt(900-1600);
Only the x=50 will work. The other two is noninteger or imaginary.
highlight%28x=50%29 with 30 and 40.
