Question 943227: what do you do with the Sin, Con, and Tan to get the measurements of a triangle?
Answer by MathLover1(20849) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
For a triangle with an angle theta, they are calculated this way:
Sine Function:
sin%28theta%29+=+Opposite+%2F+Hypotenuse
Cosine Function:
cos%28theta%29+=+Adjacent+%2F+Hypotenuse
Tangent Function:
tan%28theta%29+=+Opposite+%2F+Adjacent

How to remember? Think "Sohcahtoa"! It works like this:
Soh...

%28s%29ine+=+%28o%29pposite+%2F+%28h%29ypotenuse
...cah...

%28c%29osine+=+%28a%29djacent+%2F+%28h%29ypotenuse
...toa

%28t%29an+=+%28o%29pposite+%2F+%28a%29djacent
so, sometimes you are given an angle and side, then formulas above will help you to calculate unknown side or angle
Example: what are the sine, cosine and tangent of 30° ?
The classic 30° triangle has a hypotenuse of length 2, an opposite side of length 1 and an adjacent side of sqrt%283%29:
Now we know the lengths, we can calculate the functions:
Sine
sin%2830%29+=+1+%2F+2+=+0.5
Cosine
cos%2830%29+=+sqrt%283%29%2F2=1.732+%2F+2+=+0.866
Tangent
tan%2830%29+=1%2Fsqrt%283%29=+1+%2F+1.732+=+0.577
