to compare a fraction to a decimal, write both as a decimal or both as a fraction

-7%2F8 and -0.87

write -7%2F8 as a decimal: -7%2F8=-0.875

as you can see -0.875%3C-0.87.....-0.875 goes further to the left from zero than -0.87 for -0.005 units

or,write -0.87 as a fraction: -87%2F100

now you need to write -7%2F8 and -87%2F100 as a fractions with same denominator, so find LCD for 8 and 100

factor 100: 100=2%2A2%2A5%2A5

factor 8: 8=2%2A2%2A2

LCD for 8 and 100 is 2%2A2%2A2%2A5%2A5=200

then we have:

-7%2F8=-7%2A25%2F200=-175%2F100 and -87%2F100=-87%2A2%2F100=-174%2F100

so -174%2F100%3E-175%2F100
