You can put this solution on YOUR website!
While golfing , Sahar hits a tee shot from T toward a hole at H , but the ball veers 23 degrees and lands at B.
The scorecard says that H is 270m from T.
If Sahar walks 160m to the ball (B) , how far is the ball from the hole?
:
This is a side/angle/side problem, use the law of cosines
a^2 = b^2 + c^2 -2(bc)cos(A)
in our problem
A = 23 degrees
a = side opposite of 23 degrees (distance from B to the hole)
b = 270
c = 160
:
a^2 = 270^2 + 160^2 -2(270*160)*cos(23)
a^2 = 72900 + 25600 - 2(43200)*.9205
a^2 = 98500 - 79531.6
a = sqrt%2818968.4%29
a = 137.7 meters from B to the hole
