Question 522070: The height of a triangle is two more than three times the base. Determine the dimensions that will give a total of 28yds². What is the minimum area of such a triangle
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
base =b
height = 3b+2
1/2 * b*(3b+2)=28
b(3b+2)=28*2
3b^2+2b=56
3b^2+2b-56=0
Find the roots of the equation by quadratic formula

a= 3 ,b= 2 ,c= -56

b^2-4ac= 4 + 672
b^2-4ac= 676

x1=( -2 + 26 )/ 6
x1= 4
x2=( -2 -26 ) / 6
x2= -4.67
Ignore negative value
base =4 and height = 3b+2 = 14
