You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If it is isosceles, then both legs are length 6 inches.
We can use the short-cut ratio for isosceles right triangles ==> 1:1:sqrt(2)
and get 6:6:6*sqrt(2)...
Thus the hypotenuse is 6%2Asqrt%282%29
We could also use the Pythagorean Theorem, but this is far easier...

The Length of one leg of an isosceles right triangle is 6 inches. Express the length of the hypotenuse in simplest radical form.

Since this triangle is a right triangle, the legs will have the same measure, and since one leg is 6 inches, then the other is 6 inches also.

Now, using the pythagorean formula, c%5E2+=+a%5E2+%2B+b%5E2, with "c" being the length of the hypotenuse, and both "a" and "b" the legs,we get:
c%5E2+=+6%5E2+%2B+6%5E2
c%5E2+=+36+%2B+36
c%5E2+=+72
c+=+0+%2B-+sqrt%2872%29_____Taking the square root of each side of equation in order to isolate c, the hypotenuse

c+=+sqrt%2872%29______Ignoring the negative value as measurements CAN NOT be expressed with negatives values
c+=+sqrt%2836%2A2%29_______c+=+sqrt%2836%29%2Asqrt%282%29
c, or hypotenuse = highlight_green%286sqrt%282%29%29
