We have a right triangle, so we need to use Pythagorean theorem as
a%5E2+%2B+b%5E2+=+c%5E2
we know a = 2 and b = 4, so we can find c as
2%5E2+%2B+4%5E2+=+c%5E2
and then
4+%2B+16+=+c%5E2
adding we get
20+=+c%5E2
square root both sides to get
c+=+sqrt%2820%29
this is
c = 2sqrt(5)
OR
c ~ 4.47
