In the diagram, Line BE=80 cm, and Line AC=Line DC. Find the length of Line BC, in cm.

Label BC = x and AC = DC = z to save some typing.

z^2 - 32^2 = x^2
z^2 - 40^2 = (80-x)^2

z^2 - 1024 = x^2
z^2 - 1600 = 6400 - 160x + x^2
---
Sub for z^2 in the 2nd equation
x^2+1024 - 1600 = x^2 - 160x + 6400
-576 = -160x + 6400
160x = 6976
x = 43.6 cm
BC = 43.6 cm
