In an isosceles triangle, the 3rd side is 2m less than 1 of the equal side. If the perimeter is 16m, find the length of each other.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Let x be the length of the 3rd side (which is shortest), in meters.

Then the length of each of two other congruent sides is x + 2 meters.

The perimeter is x + (x+2) + (x+2) = 3x + 4 meters.

The equation is

3x + 4 = 16,

3x = 16 - 4 = 12,

x = 12%2F3 = 4 meters.

Answer. The shortest side is 4 meters long. Two other congruent sides are 6 meters long each.
