Question 6923: Longjonsilver had walked me through the following problem, but didn't actually solve it for me. I would like to see if the answer I came up with is correct. Thank you.
x^2+y^2=13 = 2x^2+2y^2=26
y=2x^2-5 = 2x^2=y+5
y+5+2y^2=26
2y^2+y-21=0
(2y+7)(y-3)
2y+7=0 y-3=0
y=-7/2 or y=3
x^2-7/2^2=13
x^2+49/4=13
x^2=52/4-49/4
x^2=3/4
x=+ or - sqrt3/4
x^2+3^2=13
x^2+9=13
x^2=4
x=+ or - 2
ORDERED PAIRS ARE (-7/2, SQRT3/4) (-7/2,-SQRT3/4) (3,2) (3,-2)
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!

Question 7687: I have tried and tried to get this right and when I check the answer and am not even near been correct:
Problem:
4x + 3y = 59
2x + 3y = 43 added together you get:
6x + 6y = 102
6x/6 = 102/6
x = 17
I know this is not correct because when substitute of x I am not correct? See
4(17) + 3y = 59
98 + 3y =59
HELP! I know that it is simple but, I keep doing it wrong. I had 75 problems, and the problems without negative numbers seem to mess me up.
Thanks

Question 12164: Hi,
I am learning about multiple-step equation in school and i am in Algebra-1. I was doing very well but up to this point i am confused and still don't know what i am doing wrong with my equations. We just started today and we are learning about the terms "all reals"(symbolized by an R w/ a line through it) and "no solution" (symbolized w/ an O with a slash{/} through it)Can you please help me understand what i am doing wrong with my equations. I really want to learn how so i won't be behind in my math class (lol sounds kinda nerdy but i really hoping and wanting to make a good grade in math this semester!:))
Here is an example of one of my questions:
2(4x+1)-x=7x+2
we are suposed to find out if the answer to X
*)has a solution...whole numbers only not fractions:)
*)is "all reals"...meaning x could be any possible number
OR
*)has "no solution"... which means it has no possible answer(that a whole #)
thanks for all of your help i'd really appricate it
:)

Question 13699: use the order of operations to simplify the expression
7-4[3-(4y-5)]
My book says the answer is 16y-25. I can not figure out how to get that answer.This is what I came up with
7-4[3-(4y-5)]
7-4[3-(-1y)]
7-4*4y
7-16y

Question 13938: Hello. I have a very important test on Friday and I'm having some trouble with these types of problems. I would very much appreciate if you could explain to me the steps as to how to solve this problem and some tips as to how to solve this problems in general because they are all different.

I figured out that x^2=y^2 and determined that the two points of intersection are (0,0) and (1,1) but I get a third point and I don't know why. I appreciate your help.

Question 16117: Given:
x h(x)
1 2
2 3
3 6
4 11
5 18
What I have figured out: Square x and then subtract progressive odd numbers and the answer is h(x).
Examples:
1 squared = 1
subtract -1 = 2
2 squared = 4
subtract 1 = 3
3 squared = 9
subtract 3 = 6
4 squared = 16
subtract 5 = 11
5 squared = 25
subtract 7 = 18
I dont' know how to write the equation.
