How many dogs and cats did he examine? Answer by Awesom3guy(31) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! He examined 4 times as many dogs as cats.
So the number of dogs is 4 times the number of cats.
And, dogs and cats TOGETHER added up to 15.
So:
But we know that dogs outnumber cats by 4 times, so:
Now we can easilly figure out the number of cats.
Add the c variables:
He examined 3 cats.
Since he examined 4 times more dogs than cats, we know right away that he examined 3*4 = 12 dogs.
Check in your head: the number of dogs and cats should be 15 together.
12 + 3 = 15.
