You didn't bother to state that the bank contained ONLY dimes and quarters, however since without such presumption you can't solve the problem, we proceed on that basis.

Let represent the number of dimes. Then must represent the number of quarters. The value of the dimes, in cents, is , the value of the quarters, in cents, is , and the entire value of the bank contents, in cents, is 680. Hence:



Solve for to get the number dimes. Multiply by 3 to get the number of quarters.
