3%28x%2B2%29+=+4%285%2Bx%29 Use the "distributive property" to simplify both sides.
3x+%2B+6+=+20+%2B+4x Subtract 3x from both sides.
6+=+20+%2B+x Now subtract 20 from both sides.
-14+=+x
Answer: x = -14 Please note that it is negative 14, not positive 14.
